Our Journey in Palliative Care Awareness

Courageous Conversations with CALD Communities – Pilot Project

This pilot project, in collaboration with Palliative Care South Australia and CareSearch, initiated conversations about palliative care with CALD communities.

Key Details:

Engaged five ethno-specific organisations (Cantonese, Mandarin, Greek, Croatian, Ukrainian, and Spanish speaking communities)
Communities designed and ran their own awareness campaigns
Used various communication channels: radio, newspapers, podcasts, social media
Knowledge of what palliative care is increased by up to 60% within targeted communities

Outcomes of the Pilot Project:

Increased awareness about palliative care and advance care planning
Created multilingual podcasts on palliative care topics

Living Well As Long As We Can – Research Study

The Palliative Care Research Collaboration (PCRC) project, which ended on 31 October 2024, built on our previous work.

It was part of a 5-year statewide project funded by The Hospital Research Foundation Group – Palliative Care South Australia, involving researchers from the University of Adelaide, Flinders University, University of South Australia, Western Sydney University and La Trobe University, local area health networks and agencies within SA health, and not-for-profit community organisations and advocacy groups.

Focused on increasing CALD voices in palliative care research
Results of the study are pending release, but will be found on PCRC’s website when available

Our Goals:

Support people with life-ending illnesses, both physically and emotionally
Improve palliative care services for underserved communities
Empower CALD communities with the skills to support better end-of-life experiences
