Multicultural Men’s Mental Health Community Connections Project
This two-year initiative has aimed to improve mental health outcomes for multicultural men in South Australia. This successful grassroots community initiative led to MCCSA becoming a strategic partner with Fay Fuller Foundation.
The project:
- Explores culturally responsive early intervention and prevention strategies
- Uses a co-design process with four culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) community groups
- Unpacks the unique challenges faced by multicultural men
- Develops a grassroots, needs-based early intervention and prevention model
- Works to improve access to mental health services for CALD communities
- Collaborates closely with mental health organisations to enhance cultural responsiveness
Our approach includes:
- Community consultation
- Co-delivery process with target community groups
- Collaboration with mental health services
Project partners:
- Fay Fuller Foundation
- MCCSA Men’s Council
- Association of the Burundian Community of SA
- Australians for Syria Association
- Latin American Society of SA (LASSA)
- Kabadu Men’s Group of SA
The project facilitated collaboration between communities and local councils, improving access to community spaces. This approach helped normalise mental health discussions, built community resilience, and influenced the mental health sector to better understand the unique challenges faced by CALD communities. This discovery project highlighted the value of community-led mental health prevention and early intervention in improving overall well-being.
