Meet Nadil

“Everything went so well that even after the [BEC] internship, I kept in touch with Plenti, especially with my team lead. Three months after my internship, I was offered a part-time position at the company as a Credit Support Specialist.
With that, I officially landed my first job in Australia. I am currently working in this role, and the experience has been wonderful.”

– Nadil

My name is Nadil. I’m a 22-year-old from Sri Lanka, currently pursuing a Master’s in Information Technology (Enterprise Management) at the University of South Australia.

I connected with MCCSA through a friend (who was an MCCSA intern at the time) during a close friend’s birthday party. It was there that I was introduced to the Building Employer Confidence and Inclusion in Disability (BEC) program and began my enriching journey with MCCSA.

For a long time after coming to Australia, I didn’t have a job. As a wheelchair user, many jobs that my peers could do were not accessible to me because they often required the use of legs. Additionally, having no Australian work experience made it nearly impossible for me to secure a desk job. The work hour restrictions due to my visa added further challenges in finding jobs to even apply for.

The BEC project provided me with a paid internship opportunity at Plenti Finance. This was not only financially beneficial but also an absolutely wonderful experience overall. Plenti was great—the culture and the kind of work I did in my team were honestly everything I could ask for. The internship itself was super well planned by Plenti; the team lead, along with my mentor in the team, provided balanced support. They didn’t try to hold my hand throughout the internship but were always there if I needed help.

Everything went so well that even after the internship, I kept in touch with Plenti, especially with my team lead. Three months after my internship, I was offered a part-time position at the company as a Credit Support Specialist. With that, I officially landed my first job in Australia. I am currently working in this role, and the experience has been wonderful.

I’d say the impact the BEC project has had on my life is absolutely profound—honestly, that’s an understatement.
