Meet Artour

Through [MCCSA’s] generosity, we have created a vibrant space where people can explore and celebrate our rich heritage through art.

– Artour

My name is Artour. I was born in Yerevan, Armenia in 1960, where I began my artistic journey at the Hakob Kojoyan Art School, followed by studies at the Union of Architects of Armenia. Although I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, my true passion has always been art, particularly exploring how it intersects with design, engineering and science.

I relocated to Australia in 1993, where I continued developing my artistic practice. My experiences in Armenia, Australia and the USA have shaped my style, which reflects elements of Surrealism, Realism, Abstract Art and Cubism.

I believe every painting needs three key components: drawing as the skeletal structure, pure and skilful paint application, and a strong composition and theme. This approach helps me to create authentic art experiences that connect with viewers. Since 1978, my work has been exhibited internationally, earning accolades and finding places in private collections worldwide.

To deepen my practice, I completed a Bachelor Degree in Visual Arts and Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) from the University of South Australia. In 2000, I received an International Scholarship to study traditional drawing and oil painting at Buffalo State College, USA. I now share my passion by teaching art to secondary school students and other enthusiasts.

As an active member of the Armenian community, I have initiated various projects to promote Armenian heritage and arts. Through MCCSA’s Social Support Groups, I helped establish workshops in Armenian miniature painting and creating Armenian artefacts. These Sunday workshops welcome participants from all cultural backgrounds and skill levels, allowing us to share our traditional techniques while building connections across communities.

I am immensely grateful to MCCSA for their ongoing support in bringing Armenian art to our community. Through their generosity, we have created a vibrant space where people can explore and celebrate our rich heritage through art. I especially appreciate MCCSA hosting my SALA exhibition, “Bold and Strong Aesthetic”.

MCCSA’s vision and partnership have been instrumental in the success of our Armenian Miniature painting workshops and Armenian Artefacts Workshops. Their continued support and dedication to promoting cultural exchange and artistic endeavours helps strengthen connections within our community while preserving important cultural traditions.
