Youth Engagement
Building Resilience in Multicultural Young People
The MCCSA Youth Engagement Program (YEP) addressed critical issues facing vulnerable and at-risk young people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds. This early intervention and prevention program used a holistic approach to build resilience in multicultural youth.
How We Supported Young People:
YEP offered:
- Culturally appropriate support
- Safe spaces for socialising
- Study assistance
- One-on-one mentoring
- Counselling
- Positive peer networks
- Job-readiness training
- Free sports and recreation activities
Key Initiatives
Youth Drop-In Sessions
MCCSA created a positive environment at The Brocas Youth Space every Thursday for multicultural young people to:
- Build trusting relationships with peers and role models
- Develop communication skills
- Improve problem-solving abilities
- Set personal goals
- Prepare for employment
Participants helped shape the activities offered.
Homework Support
With support from the City of Charles Sturt, MCCSA provided homework assistance to young people from multicultural backgrounds at The Brocas Youth Space.
Social Soccer Sessions
MCCSA ran weekly indoor soccer sessions in Kilburn, using the universal love for this “world game” to connect young people with broader opportunities and support.
These sessions helped improve:
- Social connections
- Health and wellbeing
- Volunteering skills
- Leadership abilities
- Mentoring capabilities
While this program is no longer running as part of YEP, MCCSA continues to offer social soccer for those aged 18 and over.
