As we join our global community to celebrate International Women’s Day (March 8), MCCSA CEO Helena Kyriazopoulos would like to take this opportunity to reinforce our organisations commitment to women’s equality and gender parity.

International Women’s Day provides a useful opportunity to emphasize the fact that everyone has a role to play in forging a more gender-balanced world and Helena said we should all acknowledge and celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women over the years.

She said we should remind ourselves that there is still a continuing need worldwide for more progressive mindsets and collective approach to addressing gender issues.

“The fight for equality has always been a hard one and we have come long way to be where we are at today still advocating on women’s voice and participation in government; and the gender pay gap which has largely remain key priorities over a century later” said Helena.

This year the MCCSA marked International Women’s Day on the 6th of March with a fabulous morning tea hosted by The Right Honorable the Lord Mayor of Adelaide, Sandy Verschoor to celebrate our quiet achievers from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse background and recognised the positive roles they play in their communities.

These are very exciting times in our history with movements like #MeToo, #TimesUp and the significant global rise in International Women’s Day activity in every corner of the world – along with the many female-focused days and initiatives around the world.

As we strive to make this world a better place for everyone Helena said she wishes all the women out there all the best as we celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women all over the world.

Happy International Women’s Day 2020!
